Why we ask questions before making your crown

A few minutes of case review can be worth the conversation. How Lumera handles questions, dentist preferences and communication before production.

The question is worth asking

A crown comes back for a remake. The lab has another restoration to make, but the office has a patient to call, an appointment to move and chair time to find. The disruption reaches well beyond the price of the crown.

That's why we would rather ask a question before production. If something in a case needs your confirmation, we want to understand it while there's still time to act on the answer.

Some cases arrive with clear records and instructions, ready to move ahead. Others need a conversation. That's a normal part of working with a dental lab. You saw the patient, made the clinical decisions and know what you're trying to achieve. We need that intent to come through in the design.

Five minutes now can be time well spent

Imagine a detail that takes five or ten minutes to review. Answering it may mean the case goes into production tomorrow instead of today. We would rather have that conversation than carry an unanswered question into a finished restoration.

You have a schedule to manage, and we take that seriously. When a decision affects timing, we need to discuss it. An uncertain instruction doesn't become clearer because the case is urgent.

We use the review process to get your confirmation where it's needed. You can look at the design, explain a concern and give the team the direction to proceed.

You know who is working on your cases

Each dentist at Lumera is assigned a designer. You work with the same person, who gets to know your preferences and how you like your cases handled.

That familiarity gives the conversation a starting point. You don't have to introduce your approach every time you send a crown. Your designer has your documented preferences, and the case carries the instructions that apply to that particular restoration.

When you send a message through the portal, it stays with the case. The design, files and conversation are there together, so the people working on it can follow what has been discussed.

Tell us when this case is different

Perhaps your usual preferences apply without any changes. Perhaps there's a detail you want handled differently this time. A short note explaining that difference can save several messages later.

Use the case conversation to tell us what needs attention. If you'd like to review a design before it moves forward, tell us that too. The point is to give your designer a clear understanding of the case, including the details that won't be obvious from the scan alone.

Our service hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Case questions belong in the portal conversation, where your instructions stay connected to the work.

We make time for these conversations because the result matters to your practice. A question from the lab means someone is paying attention and wants to get the decision right.
